Reentry Programs in
Missouri

Missouri was one of two states chosen by the National Institute of Corrections to adopt the Transition from Prison to Community Initiative (TPCI). This initiative was developed to ensure emphasis is placed on providing reentry programs in Marshall, MO, which promote the success of individuals released from incarceration.

Studies show that 97% of those incarcerated in the State of Missouri will someday return to our communities. With 34% returning back to the correctional system after being released from prison, the Department of Corrections (MDOC) embraced the Missouri Reentry Program (MRP) model in an effort to reduce recidivism.

Powerhouse Community Development has joined forces with the MDOC and Probation & Parole of Saline County to create reliable reentry programs in Columbia, MO. The Fresh Start Program provides housing, substance abuse treatment, transportation, employment, food and clothing assistance, and health treatment. It is our belief that those who work the program can become productive citizens.

About the Initiative

Transition from Prison to Community Initiative (TPCI)

Developed by the National Institute of Corrections, the TPCI model places emphasis on reentry programs that promote the long-term success of individuals returning to their communities after incarceration.

Missouri's partnership with Powerhouse CDC and the MDOC is a model for how community organizations can reduce recidivism and create lasting change.
